Parrish FL (I-Newswire) October 9, 2011 - The Parrish FL local community has the 15-year-old boy scout Elikem Dorbu to thank for his initiative in restoring and modifying the front of the administration building at Southeast High school.
Elikem’s commendable efforts began with choosing for his Eagle Scout project the cleaning and completion of the school’s monument and landscaping its surrounding area. He went out and developed this concept with the help of his parents. He sought financial help by establishing contacts with local businesses which were mostly owned by Southeast alumni. These alumni were more than willing to help, as they knew it was going to be beneficial to their Alma matter.
The groups of individuals responsible for financially providing for the four-thousand-dollar project were Contributors included Knights of Columbus Council 12155, C-Squared Certified General Contractors, AAA Architectural Elements and Coatings, Czaia and Gallagher PA, North River Dental, Manatee Landscape and Irrigation, SMR Farms, Mixon Fruit Farms, Burnett's Wholesale Nursery, Walmart on State Road 64, Ace Hardware and, Elikem’s family itself – the Dorbu Family.
While there were people who willingly helped financially, there were individuals who lend their willing hands and volunteered to help the noble boy scout with the project. These volunteers were individuals from the Columbian Squires, the school and Troop 72. To honor and memorialize the people behind this admirable deed, a plaque that enumerated the names of all the volunteers and sponsors was put up at the site.
According to the school principal Catherine Smith, Eliken in this noble deed represents himself, his family and the values of the Boy Scouts of America to the highest standards.
Elikem is a junior high student registered the International Baccalaureate Program at Southeast High, aspiring to pursue a career in medicine. He is also the senior patrol leader of Scout Troop 72 in Palmetto who has successfully obtained the required 21 merit badges for the Eagle Scout. This young community hero expects to receive these awards in December. Not only that, Elikem is also a member of Columbian Squires Circle 5078 at St. Frances Cabrini Church in Parrish, where he serves as deputy state chief squire. To add to that, he also is a member of the Key Club, the Science Club, the Marching Seminole Band, the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars.
Aside from choosing this community-benefitting project, his membership in many community and school groups like the ones previously mentioned show how very active community member he is. For someone as young as Elikem Dorbu to have accomplished something as big as this, he is certainly a community hero.
