Parents Don't Find Time To Exercise

California (I-Newswire) April 14, 2011 - One of the most commonly used excuses for not exercising regularly is the lack of time. As harsh as this may sound, this is a ridiculous and poor excuse. A wise person once stated "we find the time for what we want to do". This is true, and a hard concept for some people to accept. But most people don't like to exercise, they see it as something they have to do. If a person truly wanted to exercise then they would find the time.

The people who lose weight and maintain good health actually like or even love to exercise. They can't imagine a day where they don't workout. As far as finding the time to exercise regularly it's a lot easier said than done, but it can be done.

Unfortunately even people in the media are misinformed on this topic. Lisa Belkin writes:

"I am practically giddy as I write this. I am seated at my regular coffee shop, the one where I came nearly every morning to work until about five weeks ago, when a bad fall more or less confined me to the couch. But broken bones heal, and while I am still on crutches, and not yet allowed to put weight on my left foot, I am now wearing jeans (rather than the yoga pants I wore for five weeks), with a shoe on my right foot (rather than a sneaker). Most exhilarating of all, I drove here on my own. For the first time in more than a month, I feel like ME.

Although I have never broken anything before, and never had surgery, and never been confined to bed, this is a familiar feeling. The lightness. The freedom. The awe that the world is still here, just the way you left it. The return to a previous version of yourself.

It’s the way I felt when each of my boys were newborns, and I left the house alone the first few times.

The weeks postpartum are a lot like the ones I have just spent — confined to home, relying on others for simple things you used to do yourself, establishing a new normal, sleeping fitfully and uncomfortably, rarely showering, wondering what the heck has happened to your life. So it seems fitting that while I sit in my familiar seat today, one of the first reports I read was from the journal Pediatrics measuring just how much the lives of new parents really do change.

Researchers from the University of Minnesota confirm that bringing baby home wrecks havoc with parents’ nutrition and exercise routines. Analyzing data from a longitudinal study of young adult “eating and activity” patterns they found that parents of young children have lower levels of physical activity than nonparents. In women this translates into a higher BMI for mothers than for non-mothers, though (in a result that may tick off many a dieting woman) there was no difference between men with or without children, even as activity levels differ.

Not only do new parents move less, but they eat more. Specifically, mothers eat the same number of vegetables and whole grains as non-mothers, but they also consume more fat and sugared drinks than non-mothers, for an additional 400 calories a day."

There are 24 hours in a day and you only need to find 30 minutes to exercise. You don't need equipment or a gym membership. You just need your bodyweight. A lack of education and false assumptions about the time required to exercise makes some people believe that they don't have time.
