Oregon Brain Injury Rehab Clinic Adds Physical Therapist Trained at the Mayo Clinic

Portland, Oregon (I-Newswire) August 11, 2011 - Ruth Holloran, DPT, has been hired by Progressive Rehabilitation Associates as a physical therapist for their Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center, (BIRC).

Holloran earned her DPT from the Mayo clinic with an emphasis on neurologic rehabilitation. Her clinical interests include brain injury, spinal cord injury, and balance disorders. She also has research interests in neuroplasticity. When away from the clinic, Holloran enjoys spending time with her husband and baby girl; hiking, trail running, gardening, creative writing, and dancing.

The BIRC transdisciplinary treatment model is an ideal approach to the complex interaction of cognitive, physical, behavioral and emotional difficulties that often follow acquired brain injury. Ruth Holloran, DPT joins a team of experts made up of an MD physiatrist, psychologist, speech pathologist, occupational therapist and often, a vocational counselor.

An appropriate candidate for a comprehensive brain injury rehabilitation program like BIRC would be an adult, 18 years of age or older who has an acquired neurological impairment due to a brain injury or head trauma AND results in changes in their cognitive skills. This may include closed or open head wound, stroke, anoxia, tumor or progressive disease.

BIRC programs at PRA are accredited by the Commission of the Accreditation of Rehabilitation facilities, (CARF). CARF is the "Gold Standard" for rehabilitation facilities.
