A fresh and innovative project Open to Interpretation brings together photographers and writers in a collaborative book. Launch February 7, 2012, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Open Book in Minneapolis.

Saint Paul (I-Newswire) January 19, 2012 - Open to Interpretation, a book series from St. Paul-based Taylor & O'Neill, has announced the publication of "Water's Edge," which pairs juried photographic images with poetry and prose interpretations of the images. The book launch will be held on February 7, 2012, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Target Performance Hall at Open Book, 1101 Washington Avenue South, Minneapolis. Admission is free and open to the public.

The book, the first in the Open to Interpretation series, began with a call for photographic entries to address the theme "Water’s Edge." More than 1,500 photographs were submitted, and Douglas Beasley, founder and director of Vision Quest Photo Workshops, oversaw the selection of photographs. Once the photographs were selected, 203 writers then submitted their interpretations of the images in either poetry or prose. Anastasia Faunce, a writer, editor, educator, and arts administrator, chose two written narratives for each photograph.

Nearly 500 participants, from 25 different countries and 40 states, submitted their work for consideration. Notable photographers and writers whose work in included in the book include Minnesota poet laureate Joyce Sutphen, novelist/memoirist Patricia Weaver Francisco, poet Jim Moore, and photographers Craig Blacklock and Susan kae Grant.

"Open to Interpretation addresses both the human impulse to create art, as well as the urge to try to define or make sense of the work created," said Clare O'Neill, publisher of the Open to Interpretation series. "The pairings of the photographs with the written interpretations offer the reader different points of entry to each image, opening a dialogue between artist and writer, image and audience."

For more information on the book launch or to purchase a copy of "Water's Edge," visit Open to Interpretation (www.open2interpretation.com) or call 651-312-0113. Writing submissions are currently open for the "Intimate Landscape" publication. Photo submissions are currently open for the "Fading Light" publication.

The first book in the Open to Interpretation series, "Water's Edge," is now available for purchase. Writing submissions are currently open for the second book in the series, "Intimate Landscapes," along with photography submissions for the third book, "Fading Light."
