On International Women’s Day Shridhar University Pilani Rajasthan Hikes Scholarship for Girl Students

Female literacy has considerable multiplier effects in all areas of women empowerment and no one anywhere has a doubt that educational empowerment alone can transform women into powerful agents of social change.

Pilani (I-Newswire) March 16, 2011 - Across the globe, 8 March 2011 is being celebrated as the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day – IWD and the United Nation’s theme for this year celebrations is "Equal Access to Education, Training and Science & Technology: Pathway to decent work for women".

No one has doubt that Education is a basic human right as well as a key driver of economic growth and social change. Apart from being a basis of women’s empowerment it is well known that investing in women and girls has positive multiplier effects on the wellbeing of their families, their communities and nations.

Since the global economy is increasingly knowledge-driven, and requires an educated workforce able to apply existing technology and to develop new science and technologies to combat poverty and adapt to emerging issues such as climate change it goes without saying that Science Education is an essential part of education.

Ensuring that women acquire the necessary skills and competencies in science and technology acts as an economic imperative and it also empowers them to make informed decisions on critical aspects of their lives, including their health.

In a colorful function organized in the Lecture Theatre anchored by Miss Deepshikha student of MBA, social sciences faculty Miss Kitty Mukherjee gave an overview of the history of the day. Elaborating on various issues pertaining to women, Prof. Sanjay Kumar pointed out that the blind tendency by Indian women to ape west is undesirable.

Prof BR Natarajan, Pro Vice Chancellor highlighting the importance of the theme for this year celebrations spoke on improving quality of education & combating gender stereotypes, empowering women and girls to contribute to science & technology and make it work for both men and women and gender sensitive practices in science & technology.

Wife of Shri Vijay Pal Yadav Chancellor Shridhar University, Mrs Sunita Yadav who was the Chief Guest for the celebrations, spoke on the role of women in society and the importance of their educational empowerment.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, to promote the larger cause of women education and join the national efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), Way to Transform Shridhar University Pilani Rajasthan announced the enhancement of special scholarship from existing 20% to 25% towards admission fees for all programs for girl students taking admission to the university for the academic session 2011 – 2012.
