New York, NY (I-Newswire) March 6, 2013 - It's not just bridges and tunnels that connect New York and New Jersey. For the second straight year, runners who complete both the Allstate Life Insurance(SM) New York 13.1 Marathon® (Saturday, March 23) and The New Jersey Marathon or Long Branch Half Marathon (Sunday, May 5) will be rewarded with an additional, unique medal commemorating the accomplishment, in the Second Annual NY/NJ Challenge. To receive the attractive piece following competition in both races, runners must be registered for both events, and pre-register, at no additional fee.

Last year, hundreds registered for the Challenge, receiving the medal which features a bridge background, the names of the races and engraved “NY-NJ.”

“The NY/NJ Challenge is a fun way to highlight the fact that so many runners compete in both of these outstanding events,” said Greg Laird, Founding Partner and CEO of US Road Sports & Entertainment Group, which operates the Allstate Life Insurance(SM) 13.1 Marathon® Series and The New Jersey Marathon. “We believe that this accomplishment – two major races in a six-week period – deserves special recognition, and the medal was so well-received last year that we brought the NY/NJ Challenge back, bigger and better in 2013.”

On Saturday, March 23, thousands of runners will make Flushing Meadows Corona Park the center of the New York road racing universe as the nationwide Allstate Life Insurance(SM) 13.1 Marathon® Series returns to the beautiful location for its fourth straight year. The event will be accompanied by the 5K race, providing opportunities for serious runners as well as newcomers to the sport to enjoy a fun-filled day in the shadows of the USTA National Tennis Center, New York Hall of Science, the Queens Wildlife Center and the Unisphere.

The Allstate Life Insurance(SM) New York 13.1 Marathon® is the third race in the eight-city Marathon Series, which includes races in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles and Miami Beach.
