Nurse Protection Association Offers Legal Expertise

Indianapolis, Indiana (I-Newswire) January 13, 2012 - Lorie A. Brown, a registered nurse and an attorney with over 30 years of combined experience, the Nurse Protection Association provides nurses with legal knowledge and representation to protect their licenses from medical malpractice and discipline before the State Board of Nursing. Each year more than 6,000 nurses are disciplined in the United States according to the National Council of State Boards.

Lorie Brown says, “Many nurses would come to me for assistance in protecting their license,” says Brown. “But, because of the retainer fee and hourly rate, they couldn’t afford representation.”

Therefore, Brown formed the Association, which pools the members’ money together, so all nurse members can afford a defense.

Membership in the organization provides Indiana nurses with unlimited legal advice and representation by a nurse attorney on licensure matters before the licensing Board at no charge. For nurse members in other states, a reimbursement, up to a certain amount, is provided for attorney’s fees incurred for the investigation and defense of complaints from their state’s Board of Nursing.

“Once action is taken against a nurse’s license, it is very difficult for the nurse to find a job and move forward with their life,” Brown says. “The best defense is an offense and avoiding the problem. But you can’t avoid the problem unless you know what it is.”

Therefore, the Nurse Protection Association furnishes nurses with information on current regulations and medical malpractice decisions involving nurses through newsletters, webinars, teleseminars and live events.

The organization also is committed to improving the nursing profession by being and providing a voice and community for nurses. Nurses can talk and creatively solve problems among themselves via message boards.
