Noted Manhattan Beach Baseball Pitching Coach Wants to Take St. Bernard High School Baseball Program in New Direction

Coach Carlos Rojas who lead the Manhattan Beach Seniors Little League to the World Series in 2010 is hired to run all new Baseball Program at Catholic School in Playa Del Rey, California.

Classes at St. Bernard's Catholic School have just begun, but new baseball head coach Carlos Rojas has been working since June to create a winning formula to bring new life to a beleaguered baseball program.

"I am inspired by the legacy of this school to come in and do my very best," boasts Rojas who was hired by St. Bernard's at the end of last season from his position as pitching coach for the baseball program at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, California. Best known for his role in leading the Manhattan Beach Little League Seniors to the World Series in Bangor, Maine in 2010, Rojas is optimistic about bringing new life into a program that has been plagued with challenges. "I hope to implement a winning formula for the kids at St. Bernard's and the community of Playa del Rey. It's a great challenge and one I'm looking forward to."

While the baseball program has flown under the radar for the past several years, other sports at St. Bernard's are known as record-breaking. The small Catholic high school adjacent to LAX has hosted CIF finalists and champions in track and field, basketball and football, but not baseball. St. Bernard's boasts a number of Alumni who have contributed to the world of professional sports, including Corey Gaines, coach of the Phoenix Mercury; Royce Clayton, shortstop for the San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, and Boston Red Sox; Joselio Hanson, cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles; Donald Penn, offensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Rocky Hinds, quarterback for the Omaha Beef.

"While we have a lot of work to do, in just a few short days I've already seen a tremendous shift in the players." Rojas has enlisted volunteer parents to help streamline and organize the baseball booster club to bring new fundraising ideas to the table and create an efficient flow of communication between administration and parents while keeping the energy high. "I say this every day, and it bears repeating, 'We will be winners in everything we do!'"

The St. Bernard's Baseball Program is seeking corporate and individual sponsors to fulfill field equipment and field addition needs. Please contact head coach, Carlos Rojas crojas@stbernardhs.com.
