Nigerian Advertisers Turning To The Internet
With the continuous deepening of internet penetration in Nigeria driving a gradual shift from conventional media to digital media, advertisers are beginning to align accordingly.
lagos (I-Newswire) September 18, 2013 - With over 48 million internet users according to the ITU, Nigeria is seeing a lift in the adoption of online marketing, with companies increasingly deploying digital campaigns with much bigger budget.
According to MediaReach OMD, a Nigerian advertising agency, Nigerian advertising industry budget on Above-the-Line Advertising activities dropped by 10.6 per cent year-on-year to N91.846 billion ($565 million) in 2012 due to reduced media investment of 43.9 per cent on outdoor advertising and 41.7 per cent on press.
A 2013 Online Advertising Performance Outlook, produced jointly by Vizu, a Nielsen company, and the CMO Council, reveals marketers are now embracing online for branding and marketing performance purposes.

Pundits believe the trend will continue given the huge spends of major corporate players from the telecoms and banking sectors, on the medium. Proctor and Gamble recently announced it is increasing global marketing spend on internet advertising a major shift in its media plan and strategy. The plethora of e-commerce companies like Konga.com, Dealdey.com and Jumia springing up in the market are also rapidly driving online spend to capture consumers. This trend is consistent across Africa's emerging economies including Ghana, Kenya, Angola and South Africa.
