New Variable Speed Compressor Provides Perfect Solution

Industrial Air Power supplies the new range R Series variable speed compressor, to maximise Sibelco energy savings in line with their carbon reduction program.

At the East Golds site in Newton Abbot, the Maintenance department led by Clive Whittle and Peter Watkins identified the inefficiency and unreliability of the compressed air system. The compressors were sited in various plant rooms and the distribution pipework was old and poorly sized resulting in high pressure drops.
Following an in depth energy survey, Industrial Air Power identified that the compressors were running at too high a pressure and excessively offloaded.

The proposal was twofold:
• To supply a new 90Kw R Series Nirvana variable speed compressor and larger dryer to improve efficiency and air quality
• Increase the size and modify the pipework at various points of the distribution system to link more efficiently the production areas

The project was carried out with no disruption to production and included the installation of the R90n compressor, dryer, filters and over 200metres of 50mm Teseo aluminium pipework.

Following nearly 6months of running the achieved savings are on target to meet the projected savings of £18,000.00 per annum. Offered with an Ingersoll Rand 5year all inclusive warranty, the service costs have also been reduced.

The turnkey project included the supply and installation of a 90Kw variable speed compressor and dryer, the upgrade of the distribution pipework to the Teseo aluminium system, testing and commissioning.
