New tax incentives on residential Energy Star rated heating systems.

(I-Newswire) May 1, 2009 - R&T Services, a leader in the heating and air conditioning industry in Billings for over 28 years, is urging consumers to consider upgrading their existing heating systems to take advantage of new Stimulus Package/Energy Efficiency Tax Credits in 2009 and 2010. R&T Services has a wide range of Energy Star rated fireplaces, furnaces and water heaters that can reduce heating costs and domestic energy consumption, and now count as a sizeable deduction during the economic downturn.

For 2009 and 2010, the Federal Government is offering a tax credit of 30% of the cost, up to $1500, for energy efficient HVAC and water heating systems. To qualify for these tax credits units must be installed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 in the principal residence and have a Manufacturer Certification Statement regarding compliance with the energy efficiency standards of the new tax credit.
Consumers claim the credit on their federal income tax form at the end of the year. The credit then increases the tax refund or decreases the amount the taxpayer has to pay, dollar-for-dollar; whereas, tax deductions simply lower your taxable income.

Montana State tax laws are also providing incentives with the Energy Conservation Installation Credit, a tax credit applied against a taxpayer''s income tax liability. This Conservation Credit covers energy conservation investments made to a home or other building, and is equal to 25% or expenses, up to $500 ($1000 for a married couple who both own the building with the conservation investment).

Additionally, Northwestern Energy’s E+ Natural Gas Rebate Savings Program is offering incentives ranging from $75 to $310 upon the purchase of an array of energy efficient products when purchased through, and installed by, a Preferred Heating Contractor. This is also a measure taken for existing home owners to reduce energy consumption and expense.
