New Service Described As "Recycling on Steroids" Launches Statewide On Earth Day

1-800-GOT-SCRAP Will Take Your Discarded Washers, Dryers, Old Cars, etc For Re-Purposing

United States (I-Newswire) April 19, 2011 - A brand new service described as “recycling on steroids” and destined to benefit our planet is being officially launched on Earth Day, April 22. 1-800-GOT-SCRAP is available to consumers who have unwanted large-scale metal items such as old cars, dishwashers, washing machines, stoves and refrigerators that need to be discarded. 1-800-GOT-SCRAP will pick them up for a small fee or they may be dropped off at an affiliated recycling center for cash. The items are then shredded, sorted into various pure metals (e.g., steel, aluminum, copper, iron) and shipped overseas to be re-purposed into new appliances and automobiles.

Up until now, many of these massive items have been dumped in city landfills across the country, which has greatly increased our carbon footprint. 1-800-GOT-SCRAP ensures that the materials are re-purposed thus preserving natural resources and reducing greenhouse gases.

“What better time to roll-out this service throughout the state than on Earth Day,” said George Adams, president of 1-800-GOT-SCRAP’s parent company, SA Recycling. “We launched a pilot program at the end of last year to see how the public would respond and were encouraged by their deep appreciation and encouragement. According to a recent Harris Poll, recycling is fast becoming a habit with an estimated 77% of Americans who recycle things like old newspapers, aluminum cans and plastic containers. Adams hopes that that this dedication to preserving Mother Earth will spread into a habit for re-purposing large scale metal items.
