New Book - VIBRANT - Sheds Light on Spiritual Connectedness and Giving Meaning to Life

When we embrace and accept that every life is finite, we start to see life through new eyes. The value of your life goes up dramatically when you acknowledge that it is fleeting.
- R. Murali Krishna, Vibrant: To Heal and Be Whole (2012)

Dr. Krishna is president and chief operating officer of INTEGRIS Mental Health, that provides adult and child/adolescent mental health services in inpatient, residential, outpatient & clinical settings; an employee assistance program; and crisis intervention services. He is also co-founder and president of the James L. Hall, Jr. Center for Mind, Body and Spirit, an educational organization devoted to improving health through raising awareness of the healing power of the connection between mind, body, and spirit.

In DR. R. Murali Krishna's new book, "VIBRANT: To Heal and Be Whole From India to Oklahoma City," he talks on connectedness and how to connect with each other.

Excerpts from the book:

a) Life is lived to its fullest when we connect with one another. Connectedness.

b) When people unite around a common event - even if that event is a tragedy -- they will grow. They will grow as individuals and they will grow as a community. They will heal. They will connect.

c) Connecting begins when we accept our mortality.

d) Many people live their day-to-day lives focusing on the temporary aspects of life, taking comfort in their sensory experiences. And none of those sensory perceptions changes your spirit. Life experiences may alter how you perceive things, but you are still you

So as you feel, hear, smell, and taste, ask yourself this: "Who is it that is experiencing this sensation? Who is the person with dreams? Feelings? Talents?

"Who is the real me?" And how will I connect?

1) Reaching out

We can connect with our fellow man in many ways

* We can reach out to the sick, to those struggling or to those in mourning.

* Look for the divine in others and acknowledge the sacredness of your own purpose. Know that you can impact another human being. You have the potential to connect.

* You can reach out to a community as well. It might be your church or your neighborhood.

* If you want to start at the most basic level, give someone a smile. Even the smallest actions can make a difference

2) Be filled with wonder

One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is a sense of wonder.

* Be curious. Learn to ask why.

* The brightest minds throughout history come from those who continued to ask the most basic question: "Why?"

* They looked for connections where they didn't exist before.

* Focusing on our spirit elevates us to a higher level. We have to be willing to leave our comfort zones and connect with our spirit and the spirit of others.

* Wonder about your world and what lies beyond it.
