Delhaize America, one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States, will receive the NEW CPG Retail Diversity Hall of Fame Award at the Network of Executive Women’s 10th anniversary NEW Leadership Summit 2011 September 19-20 in Orlando.

Chicago, IL (I-Newswire) August 31, 2011 - Delhaize America, one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States, will receive the NEW CPG Retail Diversity Hall of Fame Award at the Network of Executive Women’s 10th anniversary NEW Leadership Summit 2011 September 19-20 in Orlando. Ten leaders are being honored at the event.

"These are the leaders who have walked the talk,” according to NEW President and CEO Joan Toth. "By honoring them we not only recognize their achievements but spotlight the diversity best practices the industry needs to succeed in the years ahead.” The award is given "for outstanding achievement promoting diversity and inclusion in the consumer products and retail industry and for passionate support of the Network of Executive Women and its mission."

With five women executives on its senior leadership team and three of its four operating banners led by women, Delhaize America’s commitment to diversity is entrenched in the corporate culture. The company operates under the names of Food Lion, Bloom, Bottom Dollar Food, Hannaford, Harvey’s, Reid’s and Sweetbay.

Recipients of the NEW William J. Grize CPG Retail Diversity Hall of Fame Award will be recognized during a red carpet gala event at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel on September 19. Grize, who died in 2010, began his career at Stop & Shop as a part-time clerk and rose to become CEO of Ahold USA.

Other innovators being honored for outstanding achievement in driving diversity and inclusion include: Linda Dillman of Hewlett-Packard, honored for her work with Walmart; Jeri Dunn, recently retired from Bacardi, honored for her work at Tyson Foods; Tom Greco of PepsiCo; Don Knauss of The Clorox Company, also recognized for his work at Coca-Cola; Jeff Noddle, former CEO of SUPERVALU; Kay Palmer of J.B. Hunt; Judy Spires of Kings Super Markets, formerly of Acme Markets; and James White of Jamba Juice Company, honored for his work at Safeway. Procter & Gamble also will receive the award.
