NeoMetrix Uses 3D Scanning & Reverse Engineering to Help Air Mobile Ministries Provide Disaster Relief

When the water purification system that Air Mobile Ministries has been providing to help victims of natural disasters ceased to be available, they turned to NeoMetrix to help develop 3D CAD data to put the unit back in production

Orlando, FL (I-Newswire) March 29, 2011 - Orlando, FL– Air Mobile Ministries is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that does disaster relief all around the world. Since its inception in 1978, AMM has traveled around the world many times bringing medical supplies, food, clothing, and now the Air Mobile Rescuer water purifier to those in need. Joe Hurston and his team of volunteers have worked to help disaster victims after hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes and war.

Since 2004, AMM has been bringing water purification systems to 38 countries worldwide with over 600 units deployed. The Air Mobile Rescuer water purifier is an amazing, life saving tool, at a mere 20 pounds, it can produce up to 25 gallons of pure water every hour, which is enough drinking water for 500 people per day!

Unfortunately, the original manufacturer of this system is ceasing production. AMM was looking to find new sources of manufacturing, but they lack the engineering data to produce the product.

AMM contacted NeoMetrix Technologies, Inc, of Lake Mary FL to help with the task. NeoMetrix specializes in 3D laser scanning, reverse engineering and rapid prototyping. NeoMetrix engineers were able to laser scan one of the original units using the Konica-Minolta Range 7 3D Scanner, and develop 3D Solid Models using Rapidform XOR3 software.

The 3D CAD models provided by NeoMetrix can now be used by AMM to source molds and tooling required for manufacturing.
According to Dan Perreault, President of NeoMetrix, “We see the work that we’re doing for AMM as an opportunity to use our technology and skill set to give back to the worldwide community. It’s rare that we get to use 3D scanning to help those in need.”
