(I-Newswire) March 12, 2010 - Sweet as honey. That is the proverbial description of newbie couples. And it's an apt tag. To be sure, those who've just started their relationships are virtually inseparable.

As time passes by, though, things change and many couples become less intimate. Some even fall out and break-up.

There are many factors that can decrease intimacy between couples—not enough communication, too much stress, and lack of libido.

Sex is certainly important in a relationship. Most studies emphasize significant health benefits of sex; yet sex isn't just a great physical exercise—you can also know your partner better, or rediscover them, when you have regular sex. Indeed, decrease in sexual activity between couples is one of the major reasons why relationships flounder. And many of those who lack libido are women.

One of New York's top acupuncturists, Jill Blakeway, says that they "see a lot of women complain that they don't feel like having sex, that they're tired, that they have little children, that there's never the right moment and that their sex life dwindles, that they miss it, and they come for us for help in increasing desire."

So, how can regular acupuncture increase libido?

In Chinese medicine, improving blood and chi circulation in the pelvic area is the essential factor in increasing libido among women. Jill Blakeway says that regular acupuncture sessions increase libido by moving blood and chi in the pelvic area.

"For libido issues usually what we do here at the YinOva Center in New York is that we treat people for about six weeks. And in six weeks we should have made the difference," Jill says.

Jill's treatment program is not limited to acupuncture sessions. The acupuncturist also prescribed Chinese herbs and advises patients to undergo exercises. There is not a single form of treatment for libido issues, though. For each category of every patient, Jill employs different treatment regimens. For instance, Jill gives herbs and regular acupuncture to people with low desire. Patients with low desire usually have kidney-chi deficiency and heart-blood deficiency. Jill says that people with low desire respond very well to acupuncture and herbs.

Those who are not aroused, on the other hand, have kidney-yin deficiency. According to Jill, "Yin is what gives your body substance, it's what gives you moisture and makes you receptive. So you can imagine if you're low on yin you feel dry and unreceptive." Patients in this category are given yin tonics aimed at the pelvic area and acupuncture.

For people who are not having orgasms, Jill says that chi and blood stagnation are the main culprits. Yet the acupuncturist pointed that people who have difficulties reaching orgasm are the easiest people to treat since they respond well to acupuncture.

Some patients visit Jill and complain that they are feeling serious pain when having sex. Jill said that they usually give these people blood moving herbs to move obstruction in the pelvic area and also advise them to visit their gynecologist.
