NBA Legend Isaiah Rider Is Ready To Play Again
All Star is open to exploring his overseas playing options
Phoenix, AZ (I-Newswire) July 12, 2011 - It’s been 10 years since Isaiah Rider has earned a championship ring with the Los Angeles Lakers but the 40 year old veteran says he can still play. Rider has his eye set on a couple counties including China, which has been a thriving destination for ex-NBA stars as of late. While most fans remember him for winning the slam dunk competition with his show stopping between the legs slam, other fans remember him as a one of the best shooting guards of his time.
Isaiah’s career was cut short when, at the peak of his prime, his beloved mother slipped into a coma. Rider lost his focus on playing basketball and started get to get in trouble with the law. Most recently he was arrested for violating his probation when he left the state without permission to participate in the NBA All-Star Weekend.
Playing basketball is not the only thing on Isaiah’s agenda, he’s also entertaining; coaching options, speaking engagements, reality TV shows, and he has just finished a video documentary about his life. “There’s a lot of things that people don’t know about me”, says Rider, “I have a lot of talent and love for the game that I want to pass on. All I ask is for a shot to show what I can do.” Isaiah will also be continuing to help at-risk student athletes through his charity The Sky Rider Foundation and he will also be hosting a free basketball camp in Oakland, CA this August.

Isaiah "J.R." Rider is a former NBA basketball player, who played from 1993-2002. He attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he garnered 2nd-Team All-American honors as a senior. Rider was taken by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 5th pick in the 1993 NBA Draft. As a rookie, Rider took the league by storm, tallying three 30-point games in December 1993, winning the All-Star Slam Dunk Contest in February 1994, and finishing the 1993-94 season as a member of the NBA's All-Rookie Team. Rider later joined the Los Angeles Lakers where, under legendary coach Phil Jackson, he was rewarded with his first championship ring.
