The lead night vision instructor to US Navy SEALs and law enforcement officers for the last 30 years is using RocketHub to raise funds to write "The Complete Guide to Night Vision".

Indiana (I-Newswire) October 25, 2011 - Keith “Scooter” Biggs, the lead night vision instructor to US Navy SEALs and law enforcement officers for the last 30 years, is writing The Complete Guide to Night Vision with two co-authors. The requests from law enforcement and the military for Scooter to develop a low cost, effective guide to night vision have grown to the tipping point. To raise the funds, the authors have turned to RocketHub.com to raise funds to focus on completing the book.

The book, described as the first true night vision training resource for the laymen and professional alike, covers the inner workings of human eye, how night vision devices work and their limitations, night driving, and tips, tricks, strategies and techniques used by US Navy SEALs and special operations. The book also covers camouflage and deception techniques as well as providing a guide to purchasing night vision devices.

According to Cas Nishimoto, a Ret. FBI Special Agent and former FBI Hostage Rescue Team Operator, “Keith’s knowledge and technical expertise concerning night vision is unsurpassed. Not only has he provided solutions to technical issues facing tactical teams, but with insight as to the tactical employment of the various types of devices as well. He clearly understands the full range of capabilities, especially the shortfalls, which is crucial for effective employment. He is the one to whom I would refer anyone concerning night vision concepts and equipment.”

The book is being written to offer a reasonably priced option for night vision training, Scooter said. “The Complete Guide to Night Vision does not just cover the theory and operation of night vision; it provides the lessons learned from the experience of special operators and law enforcement the hard way. The real world lessons that make all the difference in the field,” he said.

Scooter said he started compiling the book after being urged by members of the law enforcement and special operations communities to write a training guide and handbook capturing all of his experience and the tips and tricks he learned over the years. “Because training is often the first thing cut when budgets get tight, I realized that writing a guide to night vision that provided an 80% training solution would be vital to save lives,” Scooter said.

Scooter explained that the common practice of just handing guys night vision devices with instructions ‘to figure them out’ will lead to unnecessary loss of lives. “Failing to understand and respect the limits of what night vision devices can do, such as the lack of depth perception and limited resolution of the night vision device, have resulted in the deaths of highly trained military personnel. Imagine the consequences of no training!”

Scooter has been supporting Navy SEALs since nearly the beginning of the SEAL Teams, writing guide to night vision tactics and techniques, repairing night vision systems, and training SEALs, the FBI, and law enforcement in the art of night vision. Matthew Burris and Mark Stanley, the co-authors of the book, bring years of experience in night vision and thermal imaging, complementing Scooter’s knowledge and experience.

Only just announced, The Complete Guide to Night Vision has already garnered support from Indiana Law Enforcement and several retired U.S. Navy SEALs. The authors plan on finalizing the book in January of 2012 with the book to become available on store shelves in March of 2012.

The project can be found at http://tinyurl.com/NightVisonBook where the book may be pre-ordered at a discount.
