The National Atheist Party announces upcoming NAPCON 2013 convention in San Francisco, CA.

Chicago (I-Newswire) November 27, 2012 - National Atheist Party To Hold First Annual Convention in San Francisco – Promoting Secular Political Action and Organizing

The National Atheist Party (NAP) will be coming together in San Francisco in 2013.

NAP is sponsoring a secular event, NAPCON2013, bringing together atheists, agnostics, free-thinkers, secularists, humanists and anyone else who believes that a representative government, at all levels, must be free from the exclusive influence of any one religion. The event is being held on March 9, 2013 at the South San Francisco Conference Center, in South San Francisco, CA.

The NAP promotes the values of using critical thinking in all realms of society and government, of working to elect atheists and secularists to office, and the necessity of recognizing the right of all Americans to live in a country that guarantees the Constitutional right to freedom from religion as well as freedom of religion.

“We look forward to meeting open-minded, free-thinking people from around the country who are working toward those goals. I invite everyone to join us for lively, respectful discussions and valuable sources of information that clearly demonstrate how a government based on secular, evidence-based public policy would benefit everyone and what you can do to help get us there.” stated Troy Boyle, President of the National Atheist Party. This historic convention will feature educational lectures on the history of secularism, atheism and free-thought and how they translate into political action today as well as voter outreach, organizing in local communities, the NAP’s national organizing efforts and, most importantly, what attendees can do to advance the NAP goal of electing secular and atheist candidates to office.

The NAP is pleased to present journalist and radio personality, Jamila Bey, as the convention’s Keynote Speaker. Ms. Bey is a journalist based in Washington, DC, where she hosts the weekly radio show “The Sex, Politics and Religion Hour: SPAR With Jamila” which airs on AM 1390 in Washington and AM 1430 in New York City. She also writes for the Washington Post blog, “She the People.” Ms. Bey has been a producer and editor at National Public Radio working for shows including Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Tell Me More, and Talk of the Nation. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, The New Humanist of London, Jazz Times Magazine and WebMD as well as on The Today Show and radio stations around the country. A sought-after speaker and writer, Ms. Bey’s areas of expertise include health and family policy, and all issues concerning the First Amendment. She particularly enjoys reporting on issues concerning religion and the separation of church and state.

Other speakers will include atheist video blogger and evolutionary activist Aron Ra, “Cult of Dusty” creator Dusty Smith, world-renowned author, philosopher and professional historian Dr. Richard Carrier, Executive Director of Recovering from Religion and author Jerry Dewitt and Michael Werner, former President of AHA. Shelley Segal (an “ex-Jew” as she describes herself) will perform music from her latest album “An Atheist Album,” which wowed attendees earlier this year at the Reason Rally in Washington, D.C.

The NAP will be hosting a Fundraising Luncheon where attendees will have the opportunity to meet all the speakers and get to know Troy Boyle, the NAP President, as well as other NAP activists and supporters. Attendees are invited to join the NAP leadership and speakers for more entertainment at the scheduled After Party to be held after the convention.
