MusicQubed Appoints Former BlackBerry and Vodafone Executive Chris Burke as Chairman

Respected mobile industry executive to drive global expansion for curated mobile music service

MusicQubed, the UK's innovative provider of curated mobile music for the mass market, has today announced the appointment of Chris Burke as Chairman, effective immediately. His appointment marks the next step in MusicQubed's plans for significant growth and expansion into new global markets.

Burke has more than 30 years' experience in the telecoms and IT sectors, with a career spanning Europe and North America. Most recently, Burke was EMEA Managing Director at Research in Motion, and Chief Technology Officer at Vodafone UK Ltd. Before that, Burke held a number of senior technical and management positions in large global corporations including Nortel and Energis.

"I have been following MusicQubed's growth very closely and feel that its mobile music platform is leading the way in delivering music to a mass market with a compelling proposition that supports both the operators and the music industry," said Chris Burke. "Focused on enhancing and optimising the user experience, MusicQubed's non-streaming, data efficient platform has been purpose built for the mobile music listener. I am excited to be part of such an innovative company, particularly following the successful O2 Tracks deployment and engagements with other tier one operators internationally. I can only look forward to our continued success."

Burke will be responsible for driving MusicQubed's long-term strategy and expanding the company into new international markets. As a bespoke mobile music app, MusicQubed's model is applicable to a wide range of mobile carriers and can be rolled out as a branded proposition on smart and feature phones to appeal to under-served mainstream consumer audiences.

Chris Gorman, CEO, MusicQubed added, "We have a number of hugely exciting international projects in the pipeline and are extremely pleased to have Chris Burke join MusicQubed. His in-depth knowledge of mobile and range of global contacts will prove invaluable in accelerating our growth internationally. We see it as a testament to our company's success that Chris has chosen to join our team."

Capitalising on close relationships with content partners and artists, MusicQubed uniquely pushes a range of premium content which other digital services can't do. MusicQubed also handles all the licensing agreements and customer relationship management, making this an attractive value-added proposition for mobile operators.

Having previously partnered with Samsung, NOW That's What I Call Music and Ministry of Sound, MusicQubed's platform has recently been deployed by the UK carrier O2 to power its O2 Tracks mobile music service. Exclusively delivering the 'Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart' and a range of expertly curated playlists, O2 Tracks users receive the most up-to-date music every day on their mobiles. O2 Tracks has experienced significant growth, successfully generating over 50 million plays since its launch in February 2013, which was backed by a multi-million pound ad campaign featuring Emeli Sande.
