Ms. Florida Plus America 2012 announced publicly to the nation Friday, September 10, 2012 on the Queen Esther Speaks Show that she is the newly appointed Humanitarian Global Ambassador (USA Region) for Lorna Children's Foundation Kenya Fund.
West Palm Beach, FL (I-Newswire) September 14, 2012 - Ms. Florida Plus America 2012 announced publicly to the nation Friday, September 10, 2012 on the Queen Esther Speaks Show that she is the newly appointed Humanitarian Global Ambassador (USA Region) for Lorna Children's Foundation (Kenya Fund). Due to her lifelong service to the global community, Ms. Florida Plus America 2012 has been appointed by Founder, Gordon Teti, to serve as a liaison between the United States and Kenya to help create awareness about the importance of educational funding for Kenyan grade and secondary school students in the Nyanza Province of Kenya.
Monique M. McDowell also known as Jasira Monique was born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a poet, author, songwriter, plus size model and rising entrepreneur that graduated from Howard University with a B.B.A. in International Business. She was recently crowned as Ms. Florida Plus America 2012 and overall highpoint winner at the Miss Florida Plus America pageant held in May 2012. Monique’s talent and grace shined brightly as she competed in the Miss Plus America pageant in Memphis, Tennessee this June and was a national finalist, placing 1st runner-up promoting her platform of mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Monique launched the iLive Campaign to serve as a safe zone for people suffering with mental health issues and seeking help. The iLive Campaign was created to help once resistant and ashamed persons affected by the stigma of mental health issues to live healthy, happier and more fulfilling lives and to promote suicide prevention. In her new role as Ms. Florida Plus America 2012, Monique will make a statewide tour to promote the importance of mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
As an avid volunteer, Monique’s travels and international volunteerism in Manila, Philippines and Hong Kong and Zhangjiajie, China has forever enhanced her perspective of the human impact of compassion. Monique has volunteered for the following organizations while in the corporate sector: United Way of Topeka, March of Dimes, Brown vs. Board of Education, Florence Crittenton, United Way Bridging the Gap of Denver, Junior Achievement, Art from Ashes, Especially Me and serving as a Junior Achievement teacher for a day. Monique is now an active mentor with Children’s Home Society- Project 18 mentoring program, which services displaced teens in the Palm Beach County foster care system.
