Motorola Symposium Fuels R&D Innovation in China

(I-Newswire) April 28, 2005 - The symposium, sponsored and organized by Motorola China R&D Institute, is represented by the 15 R&D centers and labs in China, local and global partners, including Pony Lab, Beijing University of Technology, T3G and France Telecom R&D Beijing Co. Ltd.

Motorola encourages R&D employees to pursue innovative technologies and ideas. At the symposium, 37 Motorola innovators will be recognized for patents filed in 2004. Many key patents have already been approved. Due to the efforts of Motorola leadership and creative employees, Motorola boasts the largest R&D facility in China among foreign investors. Today, Motorola has invested more than US$450 million in R&D, with15 R&D centers and more than 1,800 research staff.

Motorola China has a long history of cooperating with local Chinese research institutes and universities in R&D projects. Through developing local partnerships, Motorola has gained deeper understanding of the China market as well as shared the latest telecommunications technologies with our partners. To date, Motorola China has over 30 technology cooperation projects with more than 20 Chinese partners.

Our partnership with Beijing Pony Lab and Beijing University of Technology on green manufacturing illustrates well the significance of Motorola technology partnership in China. Director Song Wei of Beijing Pony Labs said: "Through our cooperation with Motorola, we have set up a state-of-the-art lab for the material testing for the electronic components and products. It is a great honor to be in the IEC standard group, which championed by Motorola technical experts to develop global standards on RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) restricted material test. The School of Material Engineering of Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) just launched a project with Motorola Labs in China on handling waste of electrical and electronic equipment. "All the technologies developed will follow the green design concept to achieve low cost, low energy consumption and no pollution, high efficiency and high profit, "Professor Xia Zhidong from BJUT said.
