Mother Of Two Wears Red Shoes Every Day In 2010 In Order To Raise Money For Rwandan Children

A stay at home mother of two is wearing red shoes every day for the entire year of 2010 in order to raise money for Rwandan children in need. The idea is like a "walk-a-thon". People pledge to donate money for every day that she wears red shoes.

(I-Newswire) April 1, 2010 - Sheridan Ellis is a stay at home mother of two who was deeply affected after watching the movie, "Hotel Rwanda", a few years ago. She says that she felt a deep need to "do something within her world" in order to help out these children of genocide who were left without parents, shelter, food or education. Since then, she has also learned about the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa and of the children it has left in its' wake of death as well.

Her idea was to take something that she is passionate about and combine it with a need and get something done about it. Ellis is a compassionate person who has been on short term mission trips before. Her first mission trip through Teen Missions International was what really planted a seed of mercy in her heart for orphans. She went with a group of about twenty five other teens to Kathmandu, Nepal to work at Mendie's Haven Orphanage for the summer of 1987. Although that was a long time ago, it has not left her memory, and it created a desire within her to always want to do something to help those less fortunate than her.

After brainstorming a coming up with this quirky and unique idea, Ellis started out by purchasing her own shoes for the cause. When asked why she decided on the color red, she says, " red is the universal color used for emergency or alarm. This is an alarming situation, and I wanted to try to contribute something to help. We can all do just a little bit more than we do."

The idea is getting a foothold. Friends and family are joining in and wearing red shoes on what Ellis calls, "Red Shoe Friday's", in support of the cause. "People comment a lot on red shoes, so it opens up a window of opportunity to share about the idea and project. Donations and pledges are starting to trickle in and it is exciting to see the the snowball effect starting to take hold", says Ellis.

Sheridan blogs almost daily to document her life and this red shoe journey as well as photo journal the shoes she wears each day as an accountability of sorts. She is passionate about her family, friends, and cares for the world around her. Sheridan would love to have you follow along as she lives out the year in her red shoes.
