With the increasing famine, and the crumbling world economy people are learning innovative ways to live sustainably.

Orlando (I-Newswire) September 20, 2011 - Morning Star Fishermen (MSF) is in the race against hunger. With the rising demand for food production, and the crumbling world economy, MSF is dedicated to educating communities globally on sustainability.

MSF was founded in 1990 by Hans Geissler, and currently has training facilities in North America, Central America, Haiti, and Africa. The North American facility serves as a base of operation which is located in Dade City, just out side of Orlando, Florida. MSF promotes learning sustainability through aquaponics. To accomplish this, they provide training and education about systems that range from feeding small households in the U.S. to large villages in a third-world countries.

MSF has joined efforts with their new Executive Director, Phil Reasons. He believes in the mission statement of MSF and what it stands for, "Give a man a fish and he eats for one day, teach a man to raise fish and grow vegetables, and the whole community eats for a lifetime."

Aquaponics is, "The symbiotic relationship between aquaculture and hydroponics. Aquaculture is raising fish, hydroponics is growing vegetables in water, without soil. We teach people globally how to utilize this technology to live sustainably. We are a 501(C)3 non-profit organization operating in a race against world hunger" says MSF executive director, Phil Reasons.

Class Descriptions
A one-day training seminar designed to teach the basics of raising tilapia and aquaponic plants in a naturally balanced, integrated culture system (aquaponics). Participants will learn about the basic needs and habits of tilapia and how they should be cared for and raised to marketable size. Participants will also learn how to use the wastewater from the fish to raise pesticide-free, nutritious healthy vegetables without soil.

4 Week (Short Version)
Course focuses on in-classroom lectures and the fundamentals of aquaponics systems and tilapia biology. Its primary aim is to introduce the basics of Tilapia aquaculture and aquaponics theory. The short version of the course provides sufficient practical hands-on experience to allow the participant to understand the requirements of operating a full scale aquaponics facility, and train others.

12 Week (Full Version)
A more in depth course for those interested in pursuing aquaculture as a possible career, or for those interested in working in the mission field establishing community fish farms and teaching others the knowledge and skills of aquaculture. At the end of the course you will be able to design aquaponic facilities, estimate the economic potential and socioeconomic impact of a project, and operate and manage a full scale aquaponics facility.
