Mormon Tabernacle Choir Director Mack Wilberg Presents Workshop in Minneapolis
Mormon Tabernacle Choir Director Mack Wilberg shares techniques with Minneapolis school and community choirs in a free workshop.
Minneapolis, Minnesota (I-Newswire) March 6, 2013 - When the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs at the Minneapolis Target Center in June, some of the audience will know how Director Mack Wilberg builds outstanding clarity, glorious sound and creative melody while blending 360 voices. They will also know that Wilberg is lamenting that he did not have one more rehearsal.
Some 120 choral directors from Minneapolis school and community choirs participated, on Saturday in a free workshop, led by Wilberg, where he stated "What is the most challenging thing about working with the Choir? We never have enough time." Wilberg went on to say that he suspected every choir director in the room thinks, before a concert, "I wish we had one more rehearsal." And the nodding heads and murmurs of agreement, showed he was spot on with that observation.
Wilberg then presented his formula for improving, rather increasing time, called "Rehearsing the choir: Guidelines for Success." Singers from Minnetonka High School to the University of Minnesota will be seeing new techniques as their directors implement ideas such as "exaggerate articulation," "identify the problem spots in the music," and "make sure the warm up doesn't take too long."
Dr. Wilberg was appointed to be director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in 2008 and is an active composer, arranger, guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States and abroad. His compositions and arrangements are performed and recorded by choral organizations all over the world.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is a Grammy and Emmy Award winning 360 member all volunteer choir. One of the oldest and largest choirs in the world, it is based in Salt Lake, City, Utah at the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
