Bloomington, Indiana (I-Newswire) June 9, 2011 - A donation-based, monthly Bloomington Community Reiki Clinic will be offered at the library of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on the 3rd Saturday of every month beginning January 18. The main purpose of the clinic is to make treatment available to those who otherwise would not have access to alternative therapies. Walk in, sign up, and receive 30 minutes of Reiki from a pair of practitioners for a suggested donation of $5. All donations go to the UU Church.

Reiki (pronounced "ray kee") is gentle, non-intrusive hands-on healing. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) classifies Reiki as a biofield energy therapy. Increasingly, it is being used in clinical settings from hospitals to hospices to private practice. Scientifically-based studies show that Reiki effectively relieves stress, decreases pain, and accelerates healing on mental and emotional as well as physical levels.

The treatment consists of light touch on specific points of the client's clothed body. In the clinic, a pair of practitioners works with each client. Clients may come as many times as they wish, and there is no pressure to see a practitioner outside of the clinic. All treatments will be under the supervision of a professional Reiki practitioner.

The purpose of the clinic is to introduce Reiki to the general public in a relaxed, quiet, friendly environment, to make treatment available to those who otherwise would not have access to alternative therapies, to give Reiki practitioners the opportunity to offer Reiki treatments in a supportive, supervised clinic setting, to educate people about Reiki, and to gather data concerning the effectiveness of Reiki for treating stress, pain, and enhancing happiness and overall feelings of well-being.
