Mobile, Alabama Hospital Chaplain Publishes First Book on Writing Personalized Wedding Vows

(I-Newswire) August 24, 2005 - If it is Saturday evening, clear skies, warm weather, you may find Steve Durkac enjoying the snowy white sands of the Gulf Shores, Alabama beach, but you won't find him sunning, swimming, or surfing. Instead, Rev. Steve Durkac may be found officiating one of the many weddings that take place on the beautiful Gulf Coast beaches each weekend.

Now, after many years of officiating weddings and being asked how to write wedding vows, Steve has published a book on how to create meaningful, personal, and memorable I do's.

"Couples always ask about writing their own vows," says Steve, "and most tell me they would like to have personal vows but they wouldn't know where to start or how to go about it, so they ask me for help."

A year ago Steve set out to put together some helpful hints to place on a page on his website, but ended up writing a book! His book "Five Steps to Writing Memorable Wedding Vows" has now been published through Lulu Press and is sold on his website, on Amazon.com, and is available through local bookstores.

"Five Steps to Writing Memorable Wedding Vows" is a helpful guide to easily creating personal wedding vows using a simple 5-step formula. The book lays out the basic parts of a wedding ceremony and illustrates how the vows fit into the importance of the wedding and the marriage. Vows are the centerpiece of the ceremony. Unlike other countries like in parts of Taiwan, where couples are not considered legally married until the birth of their first child.

In his book, Steve points out that there is more than one way to make your vows. "Vows can be recited, read, or simply responded too" says Steve. "I have had couples who were deathly afraid of speaking any thing other than 'I do' and when they realized they can simply respond to their own written vows, it made their special day all that more meaningful!"

When asked about his most memorable wedding experiences, Steve says he has not included any of those stories in this book but he says his favorite is a wedding held in one couples yard in Mobile, Alabama. "Just as we started the ceremony I saw this realtor's car pull up and I knew the couple had the house for sale, but I thought the wedding ceremony was obvious and that the agent would quietly leave" said Steve. "Well, just I raised my head from prayer and started into the vows, this real estate agent yelled, 'I have to show the house.'" Steve explained that after a spat with a quest, the real estate agent left.

Steve's second book, "Prayer on Purpose: Learning the Joy of Bible-Centered Intercessory Prayer!" will be released in October. He is already busy on his next project, a book on coping strategies for death, dying and bereavement.
