Mixed Martial Arts Enters Round Two in Baltimore

Maryland’s first professional MMA promotions company, Shogun Fights, prepares to hold its second event this spring.

(I-Newswire) March 25, 2010 - Baltimore, MD. (March 25, 2010)—Local fighters will enter the ring again on Saturday, March 27 at 6 p.m. at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore in Shogun Fights’ second highly anticipated promotion, following the success and national recognition of its premier event last fall.

Shogun Fights 2 will feature the return of MMA veteran and Baltimore’s own James “Binky” Jones against Pennsylvania’s undefeated Jim Hettes in the featherweight division, as well as the heavyweight Ryan McGowan’s professional debut against Mike Williams. The event will showcase up-and-coming fighting talent from regional martial arts schools as these athletes build their professional records in front of local fans and gain national exposure.

After years of fighting to legalize MMA in Maryland, and on the heels of last October’s historic event, John Rallo, Shogun organizer and former MMA competitor, feels encouraged in his goal of establishing MMA as a mainstay sport in Maryland.

“In addition to providing excellent entertainment value to our fans,” says Rallo, who has been partnering with local businesses and sponsors to organize vendors, an official after party and hotel deals, “we also want to create a vehicle for exposing our local fighter talent to the rest of the country.” Shogun Fights airs on Comcast Sports Net and Black Belt TV, reaching more than 6 million homes across the country.

Tickets can be purchased from the 1st Mariner Arena box office and www.TicketMaster.com. For more information about the event, fighters and local promotions, visit www.ShogunFights.com, where fans can view the entire fight card as well as official fight photos, videos and news.
