Mental Health Association of Morris County Appoints Louis A. Schwarcz as President and CEO

Mountain Lakes, NJ (I-Newswire) April 19, 2011 - The Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association of Morris County (MHAMC) proudly announces the appointment of Louis A. Schwarcz as the new President and CEO of our organization. Lou will begin his tenure with the MHAMC on May 2, 2011.

Lou, who earned a Masters Degree in Clinical and Community Psychology from the University of Maryland, and a BA in psychology from Rutgers University, comes to the MHAMC from Family Service of Morris County, where he has served as the Associate Executive Director since 2003. Prior to that time, Lou was employed at the MHAMC for 13 years in various positions and has continued to remain committed to the vision and mission of the agency.

A creative non-profit management professional, Lou has developed many innovative programs for individuals and families and is recognized for his highly collaborative working relationships. Lou is a well-respected professional in Morris County and in the mental health professional community throughout New Jersey. He has held many leadership positions on both County and State committees and task forces, and he is known as a strong, compassionate advocate for people in recovery from mental illnesses. About his new role he has said “My goal is to inspire people to a greater understanding of mental illness and a greater hope and belief in the possibility of recovery.”

Founded in 1953, the MHAMC is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that works to promote mental health awareness, prevent mental illnesses, and improve the care and treatment of people in recovery from mental illnesses through programs of education and advocacy. Current services provided by the MHAMC include high quality case management, consumer empowerment, information and referral, homeless outreach, supportive housing, and disaster response.
