Media Statement post hearing on April 26, 2010 Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt Ltd

(I-Newswire) April 26, 2010 - In accordance with the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of 12th April 2010, the Ld. Attorney General presented the Forest and Environment Clearance accorded by the Ministry Of Environment & Forest (Mo
EF) for the LUMPL mining operations in Meghalaya.

Upon consideration of the terms of the MOEF’s approvals, the Hon’ble Supreme Court was pleased to direct the completion of certain conditions- pertaining primarily to the bio-diversity conservation plan – before the next date of hearing in July 2010.

Lafarge has always been committed to legal and environmental compliances and the MoEF ‘high powered committee’ which visited the site recently has confirmed the high environmental standards maintained at the project.

Lafarge is therefore confident of meeting all the conditions within the time stipulated by the Hon’ble Supreme Court to enable early recommencement of the mining operations.
