Marie Antoinette Set To Haunt Maritime Museum

Online, January 31, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Urban Arts Productions and the Maritime Museum of British Columbia join forces once again to embark on an emotional journey through the life of doomed French Queen, Marie Antoinette. The imaginative play blends fact and fiction together to explore the triumphs and faults of one of History's most infamous monarchs.

Marie Antoinette: The Color of Flesh runs Thursdays through Saturdays from February 24th - March 5th, 2010 staged 'in the round' in the beautifully restored Historic Victorian Courtroom at the Maritime Museum of British Columbia in Bastion Square. Marie Antoinette: The Color of Flesh is a bold, exciting play that breaks boundaries, challenges morals, and brings the passion and obsessions of the Marie Antoinette to life in a way not aways captured by the history books. Urban Art's is excited to be bringing this beautiful love story to Victoria audiences after celebrating great success with their debut performance; the Canadian premiere musical - NEVERMORE last October.

Marie Antoinette spans 20 years of history and tells of a fictionalized love triangle between Queen Marie Antoinette, her portraitist, the renowned beauty Elisabeth Louise Vigee-Le Brun and Count Alexis de Ligne, an aristocrat and political radical. In the early years of their relationship with 'Toinette' both the talented painter and the politically passionate Count use the naive young Queen to further their ambitions. Both learn to love the woman they are exploiting even as their actions encourage the revolution that takes her life.

Marie Antoinette boasts a talented local cast including Garry Garneau as Count Alexis de Ligne, Melanie Leon as infamous painter Elisabeth Vigee le Brun, and Andria Young as Marie Antoinette. This historical drama reunites directing team Pat Rundell and Heather Jarvie most remembered for their work on Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead for the Victoria Fringe Festival.

Revised and Retitled: Marie Antoinette: The Color of Flesh, it received its New York premiere during the spring of 2007.

Marie Antoinette: The Color of Flesh has played international engagements around the world including New York City and Spain. Julia Roberts, Elisabeth Shue and Dustin Hoffman are just some of the performers who have participated in readings of the play. Playwright Gross has also penned screenplays for No Escape, Blind Man's Bluff and the film Galahad.
