Many Families of Injured Soldiers Rely on Charity's Assistance to Visit Wounded Loved Ones in Hospital

Motorcycle ride in Myrtle Beach will benefit national charity that provides aid to family members of combat-wounded soldiers enabling them to visit their injured relatives.

(I-Newswire) October 26, 2007 - According to globalsecurity.org, more than 27,000 soldiers have been injured thus far in the war on terror. At medical centers around the country, soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are waiting to receive treatment for wounds they sustained in the line of duty. On November 17th, 2007, a motorcycle ride starting at B&M Custom Cycles will raise money for the charitable organization Families of the Wounded, which aids relatives of these injured soldiers.

The 1st Annual Families of the Wounded Fund Motorcycle Ride is Saturday, November 17, 2007. It begins at B&M Custom Cycles at 508 N. Kings in Myrtle Beach, across from the post office. Registration is at B&M Custom Cycles from 9:30 AM to 11 AM. Cost is $15 per bike and includes donuts, coffee, a door prize ticket and lunch. The last bike leaves B&M Custom Cycles at 11AM. The group ride, with a police escort, will end at Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, at 518 Highway 17 N. in North Myrtle Beach. All proceeds will benefit the Families of the Wounded Fund, which provides financial resources to family members of military service men and women who have either been wounded in combat operations or injured in the line-of-duty.

During a speech at Camp Pendleton, U.S. President George Bush recognized this problem, "Here at Camp Pendleton, a nurse saw the financial strain on the families of the injured sailors and Marines. Many spent weeks, even months away from home, standing by their loved ones, recovering at a military hospital. They struggle with the cost of food and lodging and travel and lost income."

Similarly, a group of Vietnam-era military veterans discovered a major need to furnish financial aid to family members of combat-wounded patients being treated at McGuire Veterans Hospital
in Richmond, Virginia. They formed The Families of the Wounded as a 501C3 charity organization to provide money to wounded soldiers' families for lodging, food, transportation, telephone expenses, diapers, daycare and expenses back home.
