“Man of Faith” Dominates Comeback Match

Jon “Man of Faith” Murphy channels positive energy and revamped training strategy into return fight, submitting opponent in King of the Cage event and increasing fighting record to 7 – 3.

(I-Newswire) January 4, 2010 - King of the Cage spectators watched as a determined Jon “Man of Faith” Murphy submitted opponent Dave Huckaba with a north-south choke in the first round during a much-anticipated rematch on Dec. 17 at the San Manuel in Highland, Calif.

The nationally renown mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, known for his appearances on the popular MTV show “Bully Beatdown,” recently switched training camps before the King of the Cage event. He credits his growth as a fighter and preparation for the match to the well-rounded and thorough training approach at Barbarian Combat Sports in Sunbury, Pa., under UFC-experienced trainer Tim Boetsch. “I learned more training for a few weeks at Barbarian than I did after spending months in other camps,” says the Pennsylvania native.

With no set game plan going into the fight, other than preparing to submit his opponent, Murphy explains that there are always skills on which to improve, and that a fighter must train in MMA in order to fight in MMA. In addition to overall training, Murphy opted to spend more time in live grappling and fighting during practice for King of the Cage. “To be a good fighter you need to fight,” he says, adding that transitions were an important focus of his training this time.

With prospects of fighting Tony Lopez for the heavyweight belt in the next King of the Cage in Feb. 2010, the “Man of Faith” continues to depend on his spirituality for motivation on the mat and support through struggles outside of MMA. “I’m finally happy doing what I’m doing,” says Murphy, “and I’m going to keep doing it.”

Murphy is sponsored by Policy Collection, a Baltimore-based clothing company that caters to extreme sports enthusiasts, which has given Murphy his own clothing line within the brand.
