MakerPlace Announces 2nd Annual Holiday Open House on December 14
The do-it-yourself workshop invites the public to celebrate the holidays at its facility with shopping, food and a Toys for Tots toy drive
San Diego, CA (I-Newswire) December 18, 2013 - MakerPlace, the complete metal, wood, and electronics shop, classroom and work area, announced its second Annual Holiday Open House. On Saturday, December 14, San Diegans are invited to shop, craft, watch live demonstrations and grab lunch at the MakerPlace workshop from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
MakerPlace is home to more than 350 members who utilize the space for everything from hobbies to business. Throughout the duration of the Holiday Open House event, patrons will have the opportunity to shop for gifts made directly by local craftsmen. All attendees can also participate in activities, such as Nerdy Derby Racing, soldering projects and live demonstrations.
"We're so excited to host this second annual Holiday Open House as a great opportunity for guests and members, alike, to support small businesses, have fun at our workshop and enjoy some great food and drink," said Brian Salmon, co-owner of MakerPlace. "Our toy drive was a huge success last year and we're looking forward to an even more successful drive for Toys for Tots this year."
Free to attend, guests are just asked to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots, a program that gifts donated toys to underprivileged children.
Food and drink will be available in the back patio of MakerPlace with a barbecue, beer from Thorn Street Brewery and moonshine from Ole Smokey Moonshine.
"There's nothing like MakerPlace in San Diego," said Michael Salmon, co-owner of MakerPlace. "This open house is a great way for guests to learn more about what we offer before buying a membership and for us to support and encourage business for our members."
MakerPlace offers its space and tools to members only via corporate, family, daily, monthly or annual memberships. The starting price for a recurring monthly membership is $135.

The shop was established by Brian and Michael Salmon, brothers who own a San Diego custom-fabrication business, and Steve Herrick, a retired Silicon Valley engineer.
