MA-DONNE An All-female Army Against Violence on Show at Como
on view from y November 30 at Spazio Culturale Ratti in Como, the work of BIOS Vincent MA-DONNE, a solo-exhibit that focuses on the sacredness of women violated by violence.
Online, November 30, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Always attentive in his artistic research to most important social issues, BIOS Vincent returns to Como after having been invited last year with regard to a project on the subject of violence against women, a matter that is particularly dear to the city of Como.
Leading player of the show, displaying 3 art installations and 12 altarpieces of artist BIOS Vincent, will be the work entitled MA-DONNE, an army of 169 Madonnas pierced with nails, like martyrs, offering themselves to the viewer as the evidence of a violence repeating itself identically in time. These are the women that suffer ordinary violence by their men, husbands, lovers, fathers, fiancs, but also at their working places, at school and, more in general, in their hometown and still keep standing proud and pure in their being Madonnas.
At the core of the work, a red Madonna, showing no sign of violence, seems to be asking the viewer for an answer. A bevy of butterflies flies over this all-female army: the work of Chinese artist Wang Pan, invited by BIOS Vincent that stands as a reference to that process of transformation that leads to beauty as purity, to lightness and thought. A comparison between different cultures, but most of all, the sign of a possible dialogue between men and women.
The work MA-DONNE, doesn't stand as an end in itself, on the contrary, it is the starting point of a
reflection for everyone, from the simple viewer to those associations involved in the defense of women. And real women will be the co-stars of the performance MA-DONNE. Starting from the opening day BIOS Vincent will collect 169 pictures of women to create a real all-female army taking part in a dialogue with those others made of plaster, sign of a female society engaged in the fight against violence. It will then be the artist to intervene on the pictures shooting against them: an action of violence and brutality as that suffered by women. At the same time, a butterfly will alight on those pictures, symbol of social change and hope.
