As hotel prices rocket ahead of London 2012 many people are looking for alternative places to stay. People living around Games sites could make a windfall by renting out their homes, and visitors can find cheaper accommodation through the website.

London (I-Newswire) July 14, 2011 - Londoners could make up to £450 a night by renting out their homes to visitors during the Olympics.

As hotel prices skyrocket ahead of London 2012 many sports fans are looking for alternative places to stay. Those who live in London or around other Games sites could make a windfall by renting out their homes to visitors.

Loot has launched a website to help residents list their homes quickly and easily. Loot2012rentals.com includes guides on how to write an advert, what prices users can expect to charge, advice on how to prepare your home, and even contains links to downloadable legal forms for renters and residents.

Some Londoners will be renting out spare rooms and couches, while others are making the most of the windfall by renting out their whole apartment or house while they go away on holiday. It’s estimated that studio apartments will go for up to £100 per night, while four bedroom houses can charge up to £450 per night. Those in the desirable areas near Olympic sites may go for even more.

The homestay phenomenon took off at the Vancouver Games and picked up momentum in Beijing. Visitors enjoyed the lower prices and the more authentic experience of visiting another country, while residents took the opportunity to make some extra money.

“We are very excited about the launch of this new property service for both existing and our new customers,” said Paul Cox, CTO. “Users can expect to see lots more innovative new developments to help them buy and sell, both in print and online.”
