(I-Newswire) June 25, 2010 - Longmont Machining recently purchased a new laser marking system. Seeing an opportunity to expand into this hot new niche, the management at Longmont Machining recently purchased a 20 watt YVO4 laser for marking metals and polymers. This strategic move further propels Longmont Machining above their competition by offering services other machine shops lack.

Laser marking is quickly becoming the preferred identification method as the marks are permanent, very crisp and detailed, do not use any hazardous chemicals, and release no hazardous waste. Laser marking is required by the military and medical systems because of its permanency, legibility, and traceability.
The new laser marking system includes a state-of-the-art laser delivery system with equally impressive and capable software.

The system can do sequential serial number marking, auto-dating, barcodes, UID codes, counterfeit protection, true type fonts, photo-quality images, and vector/raster graphics. The laser beam can be focused on an area as small as 20 microns in diameter; that’s 20 millionths of an inch! The laser marking system is an excellent and inexpensive way to introduce limited edition products into the market place. The potential uses are staggering.

In addition to these standard laser marking uses, the innovative folks at Longmont Machining have several new concepts for the laser that are truly unique. They are really stepping outside the box by providing unique services outside of normal machine shop capabilities. These services are so unique that they are the only people on the planet working to prove the concepts. Once these concepts are functional and out of the R&D phase, future announcements will be delivered.

This is the latest in a series of strategies to build the value and capabilities of Longmont Machining. They are doing their part to strengthen America’s manufacturing capabilities while rekindling her innovative spirit.
