Loft Insulation And Leds Are 'important Energy-efficient Improvements' - Knauf Insulation

The installation of thicker loft insulation and a focus on energy saving through the use of LED lighting are two of the most important green improvements UK homeowners can make, it has been claimed.

Manchester (I-Newswire) September 26, 2012 - The installation of thicker loft insulation and a focus on energy saving through the use of LED lighting are two of the most important green improvements UK homeowners can make, it has been claimed.

Nigel Berman, founder of nigelsecostore.com, said recommendations regarding the installation of loft insulation have been amended in recent years.

It was previously believed a 100 mm layer of loft insulation would provide the optimal level of heat retention for a property, but this has now been upped to 250 mm and homeowners should therefore be looking to boost their insulation levels to increase their green credentials and cut their bills.

Thermal imaging is becoming a popular form of energy audit for Brits, with infrared cameras able to pinpoint specific areas of a property where heat is being lost, enabling property owners to do something about it.

Meanwhile, utilising the latest sustainable technologies, such as LED lighting, could further help Brits cut their emissions and save energy.

Mr Berman commented: "Fuel bills continue to rise and people are definitely wanting to do something about it. If you get LED light bulbs, they last an incredibly long time and they are much lower rated - so there are definite improvements in [terms of] light output.

"You should definitely consider LED light bulbs - they are some of the biggest savings you can make."

He added that solar panel installations are also popular at present, with Brits keen to make use of the feed-in tariff to cut their bills.

Mr Berman's comments follow those of the Centre for Alternative Technology, with a representative for the organisation recently claiming carbon reduction in the UK's housing stock is one of the most important issues to face the government.

The spokeswoman also noted further education regarding a change in individual behaviour is required to promote a greener way of living in the future.
