Local Oncologist Releases New Research on Breast Cancer Treatment

Highlands Oncology Group Physician Published in Medical Journal for Breast Cancer Research

Dr. J. Thaddeus Beck, of Highlands Oncology Group (HOG), has been published in Current Medical Research & Opinion. The journal spotlights new research on treatment options for patients suffering from specific breast cancers.

The research entitled "Health-Related Quality of Life and Disease Symptoms in Postmenopausal Women With HR+, HER2- Advanced Breast Cancer Treated With Everolimus Plus Exemestane Versus Exemestane Monotherapy" has recently reached final publication.

The study tested a new melange of treatments and indicates that the newer targeted therapy can produce better results while preserving the patient's quality of life.

Breast cancer is a pervasive disease in the U.S. and extensive research is needed.

About 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the U.S, according to Breastcancer.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing information and community to people affected by the disease. About 2.8 million women in the U.S. have a history of breast cancer, according to the website.

Trials collaborating the research were administered by physicians internationally. Dr. Beck co-wrote the research and acted as an administrator of the trial.

"This analysis confirms that better treatment results can be achieved with improved quality of life," Dr. Beck said. "Highlands Cancer Center is grateful to the patients that participated in this groundbreaking study."

Current Medical Research & Opinion is a peer-reviewed medical journal established in 1972.
