Local Community Partners with Beautify Earth to Revitalize Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica

Local Community partners with Beautify Earth to revitalize Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica. Opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting for "Corner of Love" mural slated for January 30th, 2-4pm PST.

Things are changing in the beachfront city of Santa Monica. What was once a plain, crumbling wall on the corner of Lincoln Boulevard and Pier Avenue now attracts a crowd of onlookers as volunteers with the group Beautify Earth work to give the empty lot some new life. Dubbed the "Corner of Love," the beautification project has grown day by day after this group of 67 business owners and community leaders banded together to improve the city's open spaces.

Fresh coats of paint, sculptures, an inspirational mural, and a small garden will await the public at the opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting on Thursday, January 30 from 2-4pm PST, at 3009 Lincoln Boulevard. Ted Winterer, Santa Monica City Council member, is set to speak at opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting. A community cleanup is scheduled from 11am-2pm, and all are invited.

When asked what the Beautify Earth group was hoping to accomplish, financial advisor, Ruben Rojas, was eager to share. "We believe beautifying small blocks of urban areas will create community engagement and pride, and ultimately, fuel environmental and economic development. This corner here will inspire people to be leaders in their lives and in the world at large." Rojas is one of the business owners involved with the project. Contributions are still being sought from the local community to defray the costs of materials and supplies.
