Local Businessman Makes TN's MMA Power 15

Local gym owner, Ron Dayley, is selected for ATO's 2011 Power 15 list for the state of TN.

Not many people in Tennessee can say they have cornered a fighter in the UFC. Ron Dayley has, twice.

Dayley and his wife Kathryn Norbeck-Dayley own SSF Submission Academy in Clarksville, TN. SSF has gained a reputation of producing some of the best amateur fighters in the state. Two of the most decorated amateurs in the state have come out of Scientific Street Fighting. Thomas Campbell and Steven Durr both ran through just about everyone in their paths with a combined 34 wins and only 6 loses before turning pro.

SSF won Around the Octagon's gym of the year for 2010. The winner was decided by not just the ATO staff but other gyms and MMA promoters around the state.

Dayley was also honored by Kentucky Fighting Championship as their choice for 2010 Trainer of Year.

SSF has built their reputation on their willingness to fight anywhere. In 2010 SSF had fighters on shows in Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Louisiana, East, Middle, and West Tennessee. In addition to two UFC appearances Ron has also cornered SSF fighters at Strikeforce on two occasions, the most recent being Steven Durr who won his bout in the 1st round with an impressive triangle submission.

In addition to training fighters, Dayley worked has a government contractor for the Department of Defense and assisted in training Navy Seals in Virginia.

Dayley holds a black belt in Sambo, a black belt in Karate, a purple belt in BJJ, and a brown belt in Taekwondo. He trained at the Lion's Den with Ken and Frank Shamrock and also spent time training with Dan Inosanto, Larry Hartsell, Paul Vunak, Bas Rutten, and Carlos Machado. And during his years in Virginia, his training partners were Rick McCoy (TUF winner Amir Sadollah's former coach), Pat Trey, Frank Cucci, Chad LeBrun, Andrew Smith, Klint Radwani, and Leo Dalla to name a few.

In addition to his role as a trainer, Dayley also promotes fights with his wife Kathryn in Clarksville and has found their niche due to the popularity of their shows in the area.

Dayley recently become a scout for a major MMA organization. His reputation as a fair judge of fighters; regardless of team affiliation, and a quality trainer lend themselves naturally to the position.

As if his resume wasn't impressive enough, on March 3rd Dayley served as an official for the state of Kentucky at UFC: Kampmann vs Sanchez aired live on Versus out of Louisville's KFC Center.

He regularly works with promoters all across TN and in numerous other states around the country. And his contacts in the professional world of MMA are impressive to say the least. The combination of these factors illustrates Dayley's influence in the state of TN and made him an obvious selection for ATO's 2011 Power 15 list.
