Lloyds TSB issue damp and dry rot time bomb

Lloyds TSB has issued a warning to owners of Victorian homes that they may face a "damp and dry rot time bomb" over the next few years.

(I-Newswire) November 20, 2009 - Lloyds TSB has issued a warning to owners of Victorian homes that they may face a "damp and dry rot time bomb" over the next few years. They say that home-owners are putting off essential maintenance due to the economic recession. Victorian houses are 3 times more likely to suffer from dry rot and 5 times more likely to have rising damp than modern properties. It is estimated that a Victorian home costs £3800 to maintain each year; twice as much as a modern home. Lloyds warn that upkeep is vital on all properties but particularly on older style homes.

Les Meikle, Vice Chairman of the BWPDA and managing director of damp and dry rot company Wise Property Care said: "with all the bad weather that is coming in at the moment in time, it is a wise idea for all home owners to check the water management systems within their property. Just some small simple steps every months can save you thousands in the future, especially if the damp for dry rot problem is beginning to develop within your property".
