A penetration test, also known as a pentest is a method of evaluating the computer security of a computer system or network by simulating an attack from malicious outsiders (who do not have an authorized means of accessing the organization's systems) and malicious insiders (who have some level of authorized access).

Instant Penetration Testing : Setting Up a Test Lab How-to is a practical guide which will help readers build their first penetration lab while providing them with an insight into the architectural underpinnings of the penetration test lab. The book begins with a penetration testing overview and then demonstrates, through a step-by-step approach, how to set up three different types of labs. The book instructs users on how to set up labs for practicing a variety of general and target-specific penetration testing techniques. It includes practical recipes accompanied with rich screenshots for easy comprehension. The book is aimed at beginners to penetration testing, and will guide them in avoiding the common mistakes that people new to penetration testing make.

The book, only 88 pages long, is available from Packt in select popular eBook formats only. For more information about the book, table of contents and to download a sample chapter, please visit the publisher's web-page.
