Lavario Research Indicates That 78% Of Love Addicts Suffer From Feelings of Guilt And Shame
The majority of love addicts suffer from bad feelings about themselves and many of them lost their relationships. Both lead to a vicious circle of more addictive behavior and more guilt and shame.
Florianopolis (I-Newswire) February 11, 2013 - Lavario – one of the leading companies offering self-help programs against addictions – has conducted a survey among its customers. Almost four out of five addicts suffer from feelings of guilt and shame. The numbers are equally high among men and women. Most of them are ashamed of their behavior which often consist of dating a large number of different people, often spending just one night together, and lying to their partner about it. Many addicts even pay for the company of somebody. Since the rise of the internet, a growing number of addicts spend hours per week watching certain movies in the hidden, obviously also without telling their partner about it.
As a consequence, more than 45% of all participants in the survey have reported that they either lost their partners because of the addiction or that they are afraid of losing them. In most cases, people with a love addiction try to suppress these feelings of guilt, shame and fear by even more addictive behavior. This often leads to a vicious circle. They find short-term pleasure and feel even more ashamed and guilty afterwards.
In order to break this vicious circle and in order to overcome the addiction, several steps need to be taken. Obviously, the addicts need to learn how to resist the craving. They must also recognize the daily triggers for their craving and deal with them differently. Typical triggers can be unstructured time, fears, loneliness, the internet and many more. However, changes in behavior can only lead to sustainable success if the patients of such an addiction therapy also understand the underlying problems behind the addiction.
Lavario states that 90% of all addicts are suffering from unresolved conflicts and traumatic experiences from their childhood and adolescence. A good therapy will help them identify those root causes of their addictions and propose different ways how to deal with them. The survey has been conducted in several countries and did not show significant differences between addicts of different countries.
