L.A. Duo Brings Home Best Directing Award from The Seventh Annual New York Television Festival

Mark W. Gray and Scotty Weil win the festival’s Best Directing award in the 2011 Independent Pilot Competition for their irreverent web series “Meter Men”

Los Angeles (I-Newswire) October 3, 2011 - From the twisted mind of Scotty Weil comes the retro-satirical cop-show, Meter Men. Weil and co-director/writer Mark W. Gray bring you two badass, 1978 undercover parking cops, (Weil and Chris Hatfield) who have smuggled a sexy Vietnamese hooker (Lauren Mary Kim), replete with fishnet stockings and a black belt in Kung Fu, to track down the world’s most wanted parking perps, even if it means travelling through time…and they do, by the way. Parking cop justice will be served in spades. The trailer can be viewed at http://www.metermen.tv

Shot entirely on location in the San Fernando Valley, the production team created a lush 1970s look and feel with a surprisingly small crew. The production team totaled only 4 on their heaviest day, often consisting of just Weil and Gray. From the cinematography to the wardrobe styling and from set decoration to sound effects editing, Gray and Weil did it all. Weil, one of the foremost and sought after voice talents in the industry, utilized his resources to lure the talents of colleagues including Hatfield, David Bowe, Ken Hudson Campbell, Kevin Scannell, Ogie Banks, Pete Gardner, and the ever talented, Laraine Newman.

The prestigious festival’s crowded competitive field included over 60 independent TV pilots selected from over a thousand submissions. This is the duo’s first festival entry and award.

Scotty Weil is recognized as one of the premiere Hollywood voice-over actors for the past two decades. The thousands of spots he has recorded have permeated his cortex giving him the uncanny ability to get his clients’ messages across in a unique way. Over the years, he has been the voice of everything from ABC, Acura and Kool Aid to John Deere and Nestlé’s Chocolate, to mention only a few. Weil has combined his skills as an actor and photographer to also become a director, a path he says has led him down a very cool rabbit hole that he hopes will have no end. “The Best Director win at the NY TV Festival is a huge deal to us, particularly with the very, very good competition we were up against. What a great festival!” he shares.

Mark W Gray has a film degree from USC’s School of Cinema and has been a cinematographer since 1990. A literal Jack-of-all-trades, Gray writes, directs, lights, shoots, edits, and acts, as well as doing graphic design and puppeteering. He also does carpentry, sews, cooks, and speaks French. If you give him a sow's ear, he'll make you a silk purse, and an evening gown to match. “I’ve been making films for years, but working with Scotty has pushed me in new and challenging directions, taking my work to the next level,” Gray says.

Gray and Weil have been working together for the past two years as WileyGray, a full service production company creating (mostly comedy) commercials and long form entertainment. http://www.wileygray.com
