Kimmie Horne's Star Shines Ever Brightly After Outstanding Sarah Vaughan Salute

Veteran soul songstress builds from jazz legacy to the delight of the fans--asking for more!

The music scene is still abuzz over Kimmie Horn's tribute to Sarah Vaughan at the Michigan State University, College of Music's annual concert, "Jazz: Spirituals, Prayer and Protest." The impact of Ms. Horne's performance was profound, even for the band during the rehearsal—resulting in applause from the musicians who were stunned by the performer's captivating performance that embodied the spirit, sass and soul of the legendary songstress. Rodney Whitaker, Director of Jazz Studies in the College of Music, was not surprised---having heard her previous performances; Mr. Whitaker sought out Ms. Horne specifically for the tribute to Sara Vaughan at the annual event.

A jewel in the crown of the Detroit music scene, Ms. Horne has firmly established herself as a singer-songwriter and outstanding entertainer. She has performed to the delight of audiences around the world—demonstrating a wide range of poetic prowess on stage with the likes of Aretha Franklin, En Vogue, Stanley Clarke, and Michael Bolton, to name a few. With her sultry alto, Ms. Horne exemplifies her jazz legacy (she's the Grand Niece of the legendary Lena Horne) and also commands the stage with POP and R&B favorites. On her last album 'High Standards' she proves herself as a Queen of contemporary jazz.

You can catch The Kimmie Horn Show at the Southfield Westin for the next two Thursdays, (February 27th and March 6th) and at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe in Grosse Pointe the weekend of March 13th-15th. Kimmie will return to Japan for her 18th year in March.
