Greens 100 percent of Kimberly-Clark's annual electricity use at worldwide headquarters

Neenah (I-Newswire) July 4, 2011 - Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB) announced today that it will purchase from Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) Green-e® Energy Certified power sourced from wind energy facilities in Texas. The purchase will match 100 percent of the electricity use at the company's worldwide headquarters located in Dallas from July 2011 through June 2014. Kimberly-Clark's Worldwide Headquarters uses approximately 3,300 megawatt-hours of electricity per year.

"Kimberly-Clark is constantly searching for alternative energy solutions that make sense environmentally and economically," said Suhas Apte, vice president, Global Sustainability, Kimberly-Clark. "Purchasing RECs for our Dallas headquarters demonstrates another step in our commitment to avoiding greenhouse gas emissions, supporting renewable energy technologies, and contributing to a clean energy future." Earlier this month, Kimberly-Clark launched its Sustainability 2015 Goals.

"By purchasing RECs Kimberly-Clark is greening its energy use and supporting the operation and development of renewable energy facilities," said Michael D. Smith, senior vice president of green initiatives for Constellation Energy's retail business. "Moreover, RECs are a cost-effective option for businesses to help meet their environmental goals."

RECs from Constellation Energy can be purchased as part of a broader energy supply agreement, including electricity and gas supply.

The RECs supplied to Kimberly-Clark by Constellation Energy are Green-e® Energy Certified and sourced from wind energy facilities in Texas. One REC is created for each megawatt-hour of renewable power that is delivered to the electric grid. Once a REC is sold, it is retired, ensuring that each REC is only used one time.
