Kids Can Write! iDiary — The First Journaling Platform For Kids — Has New Extra Features
Tipitap’s iDiary For Kids, a journaling platform for children ages 5-13, enables children to write and draw their thoughts. It now has added features that enable children’s first writing experiences to be even more personalized.
California (I-Newswire) June 28, 2012 - iDiary For Kids is a powerful journaling app for children that enables them to write creative personal journal entries, upload photos and draw pictures. Created by Tipitap, an educational app specialist, iDiary was developed to get kids writing independently at an early age. The 2012 summer issue of Scholastic Instructor Magazine named iDiary an “outstanding app for skill building.”
“Whether it’s practicing the alphabet or writing about life in the 2nd grade, we want kids to be excited about writing and express their ideas while building their language skills,” says Rodrigo Benadon co-founder of Tipitap. “Journaling has emerged as the cornerstone of writing education. Journals foster self-discovery, independence and writing skills,” Benadon adds.
According to Reading Is Fundamental, “A gift of a journal or diary is a way to get young people into the habit of writing daily. A journal begins the writing process, and may be the source of ideas for a new poem or story. Journals also provide a private outlet for emotions.”
Reading Is Fundamental adds, “The scribbles of very young children have meaning to them, and scribbling actually helps them to develop the language skills that lead to reading. Young children who are encouraged to draw and scribble stories will learn to write more easily, effectively, and confidently once they head off to school.”
iDiary entries can easily be typed or drawn via the touchscreen. Users will find that the touchscreen drawing capabilities of iDiary are similar to those of the award-winning Color&Draw, also developed by Tipitap. Kids can also personalize their iDiaries with customized covers, titles, color themes and unique avatars. Journal entries can be enhanced by importing user photos, stickers and writing with different fonts, colors and sizes to further embellish the posts. Also included are a scrapbook for collecting favorite pics and even a child’s first agenda! Children can print their entries or share them via email with friends or family.
iDiary will support up to 3 individual users with individual journals all on the same iPad. Kids can easily register, create a password and they’re ready to start writing on their private journal.
Whether used for documenting school projects or more complex daily entries similar to blogging, research shows that students who write journals become more interested in writing and that the overall quality of their writing improves. Daily journaling is encouraged with iDiary, but “writer’s block” isn’t an issue because the app includes recorded voice prompts to get them started; no more not knowing where to begin.
“ Keeping a journal is a private affair. With iDiary children are given free rein to express themselves on what is important to them; journaling develops writing skills, promotes expression, self-confidence and creativity. Tipitap wants children to be motivated and enjoy expressing themselves with the written word,” says Benadon.
iDiary is available for download in the App Store
