Farmington, CT (I-Newswire) October 22, 2012 - The Boy Scouts at Camp Workcoeman have a new rifle range, thanks to KBE Building Corporation (www.kbebuilding.com) and a number of its subcontractors.
Established in 1924, Camp Workcoeman is one of the oldest operating Boy Scout camps in the country. Located in New Hartford, Connecticut on over 500 acres, the camp is open year-round, and typically serves over 1,300 Scouts in the summer seasons.
In February 2011, the camp’s 12 foot by 40 foot rifle range collapsed under heavy snowfall. The new rifle range was funded in part by a $10,000 donation from KBE Building Corporation. The balance of the funding came from an insurance claim payment; a donation from MK Construction of $1500 in manpower and materials; volunteers from Castle Concrete, Xenelis Construction, and Richard Corporation; equipment use provided by Elite Construction Rentals; framing materials provided by Sanford and Hawley; and a National Rifle Association (NRA) grant of $4,800.
Through these many contributors, the rifle range was available for the summer 2012 session. The new rifle range is 16 feet by 64 feet and can accommodate a .22 rifle or shotgun.
KBE has a long history of supporting the Boy Scout organization. Several years ago, the construction firm completed two other pro bono projects for the Connecticut Boy Scouts, including a shower house renovation at Camp Workcoeman, where, like the rifle range, all the material and labor was donated. The kitchen renovation for Camp Tadma in Bozrah, Connecticut included removal of the existing kitchen, new wall assemblies, floor finishes, wall finishes, new cabinetry, counter tops, fixtures, and appliances, and all new mechanical/engineering/plumbing installation and finishes.
The grand re-opening for Camp Workcoeman’s rifle range featured a ribbon “shooting,” where eight Boy Scouts aimed rifles at a ribbon that surrounded the rifle range. Representatives of KBE, including Principal and CEO Mike Kolakowski, attended the ribbon shooting in order to present the $10,000 donation.
