KBE Building Corporation Commits to Another Year of Charitable Giving

KBE Building Corp. recaps 2013 highlights of 50 Ways to Make a Difference program, including $100,000 in corporate and employee donations of dollars and services and 2,000 volunteer hours to help organizations in CT and MD.

KBE Building Corporation has committed to another stellar year of charitable contributions and volunteer work through its 50 Ways to Make a Difference program.

50 Ways to Make a Difference was launched in 2009 to celebrate KBE's 50th year in business and the company name change to KBE Building Corporation. The program formalizes KBE's 50+ year legacy of charitable giving and focuses on providing support to the communities where KBE works and where the company's associates live. Since 2009, KBE, its owners, and its employees have donated more than $1 million to charitable organizations in Connecticut and Maryland, where the firm has its offices.

Each year, the 50 Ways program focuses on a specific theme, such has helping children or seniors. In 2013, the program focused on helping active and veteran military personnel and their families by donating time and money to the following:

-- Central Connecticut State University $25,000 endowed scholarship, which provides active and honorably discharged military veterans with education funding to pursue a career in construction management

-- Baltimore Station, which helps homeless and addicted military veterans turn their lives around

-- Puppy Rescue Mission, which connects stray animals in warzones with military personnel who adopt them as pets

-- Racing 4 Vets, which helps combat-injured or disabled military veterans start careers in the motorsports industry

-- Operation Gift Cards, which provides military store discount cards to wounded soldiers

-- Save A Suit Foundation, which collects business clothing that is provided free-of-charge to help returning military personnel be better prepared to re-enter the civilian workforce

Veterans weren't the only beneficiaries of KBE's generosity in 2013. The company also helped the following groups:

Neighbors in Need: Through its annual Gift of Gobble program, KBE assembled and delivered Thanksgiving meals to 200 CT and MD families in need.

Senior Citizens: To help the elderly stay fit and active, KBE donated $50,000 to the Tower One/Tower East assisted living community's Wellness Initiative.

Students: To help develop cost-effective and high-quality educational programs for children and adults in CT's Capitol Region, KBE donated $1,000 to the CREC Foundation's Musical Instruments Fund.

Children: Working with Connecticut architect Fletcher Thompson, KBE donated more than 300 backpacks and assorted school supplies to needy children at the Cardinal Shehan Center Summer Day Camp. KBE also donated $750 to St. Francis Hospital's Child Advocacy Center and $500 to Bright Minds Foundation, a Maryland children's charity.

The KBE team flexed their charitable and physical muscles by participating in the following events:

-- Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Challenge Ride, benefitting Hole in the Wall youth camps

-- 16th Annual Run for the Cove Race, benefitting grieving children and families

In 2013, KBE associates donated more than 2,000 hours and $100,000 in corporate and employee donations of dollars and services to support causes in their communities. In support of its staff's efforts, KBE provides every employee with four hours of paid leave each year for volunteer activities that take place during the work day, in addition to other company-sponsored volunteer events.
